Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a small accounting team; assign work, review deliverables, and provide performance feedback.
- Manage full-cycle payroll processing using ADP, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of payroll runs, tax filings, and related reporting.
- Oversee month-end and year-end close processes, prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analyses.
- Use advanced Excel skills to prepare financial reports, analyze trends, create models, and automate routine processes.
- Perform account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner to maintain accurate general ledger balances.
- Cook up coordination with HR to account for employee benefits, deductions, and ensure proper payroll-related accounting treatment.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards (GAAP) and organizational policies; support internal and external audits.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive employee and patient financial information in accordance with HIPAA and organizational privacy policies (if applicable).
- Support budgeting and forecasting activities and provide actionable financial insights to leadership.
- Aid with CARF or other accreditation-related financial documentation and requests when applicable.
- Implement and improve accounting processes, controls, and workflow to increase efficiency and reduce risk.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred; CPA or commensurate years of experience in similar office setting.
- Minimum 4 years of progressive accounting experience with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory or team lead role.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Excel (pivot tables, formulas, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, macros or basic VBA is a plus).
- Solid understanding of accounting principles, reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close procedures.
- Proven ability to analyze financial data, prepare reports, and communicate findings clearly to stakeholders.
- High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Experience with payroll tax filings and compliance requirements.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and experience collaborating with HR and operations teams.
- Nice to have: experience in healthcare or mental health organizations, knowledge of employee benefits accounting, familiarity with HIPAA requirements, experience with account reconciliations in healthcare settings, and exposure to CARF accreditation processes.
