Responsibilities
- Provides guidance to subordinates within the latitude of established university policies
- Recommends changes to accounting processes, as appropriate, to increase efficiencies
- Manages work to ensure department objectives are being achieved according to standards and timelines
- Frequently interacts with subordinate supervisors and functional peer groups
- Regularly participates in interactions to gain cooperation of others, conducts presentations, and exchanges accounting-related information
- Supervises and guides staff
- Oversees analysis and policy development for issues and processes
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related area
- 7 or more years of experience in an organization comparable to UCSF in terms of size, complexity, and scope of operation
- 4 or more years’ experience in a leadership role in a large diversified and complex finance focused environment, requiring motivating and managing a diverse group of people towards a common goal
- Knowledge of large scale integrated ERP financial systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, Oracle, Workday, SAP)
- Thorough knowledge of finance, accounting, business and systems operations and regulatory compliance requirements
- Thorough understanding and familiarity with all of GAAP, GASB, and FASB
- Proven ability to deliver results in a dynamic environment with multiple stakeholders
- Demonstrated experience with preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and related presentations, and detailed variance analysis
- Demonstrated experience with improving business processes and accounting policies, to ensure efficient and effective internal controls, data integrity and compliance with internal and external policies and requirements
- Demonstrated ability to analyze, interpret and document financial results trends and variances timely (on an ad hoc, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis)
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms with executive, senior management, faculty, staff, managers and technical staff
- Demonstrated ability to develop solutions that meet the needs of customers with diverse skill sets in a decentralized environment
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across the organization at all levels.
