Accounting Officer (Tax Advisor)

Horizon Farm Credit is actively seeking an Accounting Officer (Tax Advisor) to join our team in Mechanicsburg or Chambersburg, PA. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule.

About the role

Accounting Officers (Tax Advisors) provide accounting, recordkeeping, and income-tax-return services with a high level of quality, accuracy, and efficiency. The role also involves promoting related Farm Credit services, aiding business development, and participating in public relations activities. You will operate under the general supervision of an Accounting Services Manager.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and build strong customer relationships, gaining a thorough understanding of their business and goals.
• Serve as a trusted partner, advising on sound accounting, financial management, and tax best practices.
• Gather complete and accurate financial data to prepare tax returns, financial reports, records, and payroll services.
• Understand federal and state tax regulations, staying up to date on changes.
• Collaborate with Farm Credit teammates to develop new business and expand relationships with existing customers.
• Actively participate in educational programs for customers and prospects.
• Participate in departmental and regional team meetings, sharing insights to improve customer service.
• Obtain and maintain a Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN).

Requirements

• Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Generally, two or more years of experience in tax preparation, with an understanding of farm and business taxation.

Qualifications

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent (EA) certifications are preferred.
