Accounting Officer (Tax Advisor)

About the role

Horizon Farm Credit is seeking an Accounting Officer (Tax Advisor) to join our team in Mechanicsburg or Chambersburg, PA. This hybrid position supports the agriculture industry by providing accounting, tax preparation, and advisory services while building customer relationships.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and build strong customer relationships, understanding their business and goals.
• Serve as a trusted advisor on accounting, financial management, and tax best practices.
• Gather accurate financial data to prepare tax returns, financial reports, records, and payroll services.
• Stay current on federal and state tax regulations, including changes affecting agriculture.
• Collaborate with Farm Credit teammates to develop new business and expand existing customer relationships.
• Participate in customer and prospect educational programs.
• Contribute to departmental and regional team meetings with updates to improve customer service.
• Obtain and maintain a Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN).

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Generally, two or more years of experience in tax preparation, with an understanding of farm and business tax needs.

Qualifications

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent (EA) certifications preferred.
• Detail-oriented, organized, and analytical with a passion for supporting the agricultural community.
• Eager to learn and grow in a role that blends tax expertise with customer relationship-building.
