Job Summary

Lead and manage accounting functions for Amtrak's fixed assets, including but not limited to setup, monitoring, accounting, reporting, and review of team members' work. Manage, train, and develop the accounting staff, which includes performance monitoring, evaluation, and other personnel actions.

This role is being created to support a multi-year transformational project at Amtrak, as support for normal department operations. As this position is tied to that project work, continuation of work after completion of the project would depend on business needs at that time.

Essential Functions

  • Manage capital accounting processes and supervise capital accounting staff
  • Coach and develop accounting staff on policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Manage/review/approve capital work in progress accounts, capitalization, and retirements of fixed assets in various functional areas
  • Review and approve balance sheet reconciliations
  • Review and approve journal entries and purchase requests related to capital projects
  • Review and approve invoice reconciliations
  • Lead and assist with internal and external audit requests
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes within PowerPlan and SAP
  • Review accounting activity, monitor variances, and provide analysis to stakeholders
  • Provide updates to leadership and respond to related inquiries
  • Lead and assist in ad-hoc requests and projects

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience
  • Plus 7 years of relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • 9 years of relevant work experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel
  • Strong working knowledge of PowerPlan, SAP and other Amtrak applications
  • Professional certification and/or MBA

  • Demonstrated expertise in fixed asset accounting
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel and other Microsoft Office applications

Pay

The salary/hourly range is $113,200.00 – $146,664.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee's assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee's base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
