Accounting Manager, General Ledger

Position Summary

The Accounting Manager, General Ledger will lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close accounting processes, including preparation and review of journal entries and general ledger account reconciliations for both consolidated and non-consolidated legal entities. They will also review and approve calculations of intercompany agreements, royalties, bonuses, and commissions.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct annual performance appraisals, and administer salary adjustments.
  • Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
  • Review journal entries and related supporting documentation to ensure the entries are correct and properly supported.
  • Evaluate new or existing accounting guidance as needed.
  • Avoid becoming overly self-reliant and collaborate with others.
  • Lead monthly P&L fluctuation analysis with leadership team.
  • Coordinate with Finance Operations, Legal and Tax to ensure intercompany agreements are updated for changes to company operations.
  • Supervise the preparation of monthly financial statements and reports.
  • Analyze financial statements and explain variances in the financial results as compared to prior periods.
  • Supervise monthly consolidation eliminations and ensure accuracy.
  • Direct the General Ledger Team to create closing schedules and procedures and resolve issues that impact the timeliness and/or reliability of financial results.
  • Assist with year-end audit process, ad hoc reporting, and financial analyses as required.

Experience And Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or MBA.
  • A minimum of five years of experience within public and corporate accounting; experience with multi-national operations preferred.
  • Two years of management experience.
  • CPA preferred.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of accounting fundamentals to include Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); knowledge of government accounting standards a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills with a demonstrated ability to gather and evaluate complex data and information and develop a recommendation and plan of action.
  • Strong understanding of multi-entity and multi-currency accounting.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills coupled with the ability to work across all levels in the organization.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite; advanced proficiency in Excel, ERP experience required. (JD Edwards preferred).

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the individual is frequently required to sit and stand for long periods. The individual is occasionally required to walk; use hands and fingers to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms.

Work Environment

  • This position is performed in a traditional office environment with hybrid schedule possible.

Compensation Summary

  • The annual base salary for this position ranges from $101,400 to $154,650.
  • This salary range represents a general guideline as MSD considers other factors when presenting an offer of employment, such as scope and responsibilities of the position, external market factors, and the candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities, education and experience.
  • Employees may qualify for a discretionary or non-discretionary bonus in addition to their base salary. These annual bonuses are intended to recognize individual performance and enable employees to benefit from the Company's overall success.
