About the role
We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee the accounting, reporting, and general ledger activities related to operating expenses, vendor payments, accruals, and other disbursement-related transactions.
Responsibilities
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes related to operating expenses, vendor disbursements, prepaid assets, accruals, and related balance sheet accounts.
- Oversee the preparation and review of journal entries associated with expenses, accruals, intercompany allocations, prepaid expenses, and payment-related accounting activities.
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of expense recognition in accordance with U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies.
- Review and approve account reconciliations for key expense and liability accounts, ensuring timely resolution of reconciling items.
- Partner closely with Accounts Payable, Treasury, Procurement, and operational departments to ensure proper accounting treatment of transactions and timely financial reporting.
- Analyze spending trends, identify unusual fluctuations, and provide variance explanations to finance and executive leadership.
- Monitor accrued liabilities and ensure appropriate cut-off procedures are followed during financial close cycles.
- Support internal and external audit requests by preparing schedules, documentation, and explanations related to expense accounting and payment processes.
- Establish and maintain effective internal controls over financial reporting related to expenditures and liabilities.
- Drive process improvements, automation initiatives, and accounting efficiencies to strengthen the close process and enhance reporting accuracy.
- Aid in accounting research and implementation of new accounting guidance impacting expense recognition and liability accounting.
- Collaborate with FP&A and business leaders on budgeting, forecasting, and expense management initiatives.
- Develop, mentor, and manage accounting staff while promoting a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional development.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- CPA preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience managing general ledger and month-end close activities.
- Prior supervisory or management experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, accrual accounting, and financial statement preparation.
- Experience overseeing expense accounting, accrued liabilities, prepaid assets, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Advanced proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience working in a multi-entity, high-volume transaction environment preferred.
- Ability to effectively partner with cross-functional teams and communicate complex accounting concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
