Thieneman Construction, Inc is seeking an Accounting Manager for our office in Westfield, Indiana. The successful candidate will collaborate with a variety of personnel to fulfill a range of responsibilities, driving operational excellence and supporting the company’s growth.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the construction management team to support project accounting, including job costing, progress billing, and financial analysis, to align project performance with company goals.
- Maintain and perform accounting records for multiple related entities.
- Work with construction Project Managers and others to appropriately capture, record, and present construction activity.
- Track and invoice construction draws and post receipts from the owner or management companies.
- Conduct balance sheet reconciliations.
- Work with Fixed Asset depreciation software—data entry and monthly standard depreciation entry.
- Oversee the preparation of tax returns by the in-house Payroll team; assist, coach, and train the team as needed (e.g., tax returns, quarterly and annual reporting, year-end benefit calculations, and W2s).
- Track and update payroll burden for Private/Federal Government and State.
- Monitor the financial operations of the company or assigned area to ensure compliance with budget.
- Recommend methods for improving procedures and systems to management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Experience within the Real Estate and Construction industry strongly preferred.
- Public Accounting experience ideal.
- Payroll experience a plus.
- HR Benefit Administration and Union Payroll experience a plus.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) strongly preferred.
Skills
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively under tight deadlines while adhering to reporting requirements of multiple lenders and capital partners—budget and track financial covenants.
- Proficient in GAAP construction accounting principles, including percentage-of-completion and job costing.
- Experience with construction accounting software systems a plus, especially Procore, Foundation, or comparable ERP system.
- Experience with implementing efficiencies and process improvements across the accounting department and other disciplines through innovation and technology.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills: in person, email, phone.
- Fully proficient in Microsoft Excel.
- Skilled at collaboration and influence (both within accounting as well as cross-functional teams).
- High level of integrity and ethics in handling confidential financial information.
- Familiarity with budgeting processes and financial forecasting techniques.
- Experience with account reconciliation procedures and general ledger management.
