About the role
Old Dominion Group Inc. (ODG), a respected specialty contractor founded in 1981, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to join our growing team. This position plays a key role in supporting the company’s financial operations by ensuring accuracy, organization, and efficiency across multiple accounting functions. The ideal candidate is analytical, dependable, and thrives in a fast-paced construction environment while maintaining the highest level of professionalism and integrity.
Responsibilities
- End-to-end review of accounting activity across balance sheet and operating accounts — with a focus on accuracy and controls.
- Timely and precise general ledger entries, reconciliations, and reviews in partnership with other departments.
- Support consolidation and reporting across multiple entities, brands, and locations.
- Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll activities.
- Active participation in external audits along with hands-on involvement in strengthening internal controls.
- Continuous process improvement — you’ll be expected to ask questions, spot inefficiencies, and help raise the bar for how the Accounting Department operates.
- Assist in training and supporting team members on accounting procedures, systems, and best practices.
- Keep documentation, templates, and systems organized.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with 4–5 years of experience in accounting, finance, consulting, or another analytical role.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial statements, and accounting fundamentals.
- High standards of professionalism, ethics, and integrity, with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information discreetly.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, along with experience using ERP systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Strong organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Curious, confident, and hardworking, with a willingness to quickly learn and apply new skills.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic, reliable transportation, and flexibility to work extended hours as needed.
- Demonstrated customer service skills, professional demeanor, and the ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels, vendors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
- Positive team player with a solutions-oriented attitude.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Able to walk, sit, stand, bend, kneel, stretch, squat, and climb.
- Able to travel to jobsites, meetings, and other destinations as needed.
- Able to wear required personal protective equipment.
- Able to work with specialized construction equipment, tools, and materials.
- Able to see, talk, and hear in person, via phone, and/or through online/video.
- Able to use hands and fingers in a manner that allows for use of a keyboard and phone.
- Able to lift & carry items up to 10 lbs.
