Responsibilities
- Lead key portions of the monthly close cycle, ensuring timely and accurate completion of accounting deliverables tied to government contract activity.
- Review and approve contract-related accounting transactions, with particular attention to non-billing items and their impact on financial reporting.
- Evaluate direct and indirect cost activity to confirm proper treatment under government contracting rules, including allowability and allocability considerations.
- Partner with Finance, Program Management, and Contracts teams to identify and resolve cost accounting questions that may affect compliance and reporting.
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger through detailed review of journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Aid with account reconciliation activities to ensure balances are fully supported and discrepancies are investigated promptly.
- Contribute to audit readiness by organizing financial information and supporting external financial statement audit requests.
- Help reinforce adherence to government compliance standards by applying sound accounting judgment across contract-related transactions.
Requirements
- Proven experience overseeing month-end close activities in an accounting leadership or management capacity.
- Strong working knowledge of general ledger management, journal entries, and account reconciliation practices.
- Background in federal government contract accounting, including compliance-focused financial review.
- Understanding of direct and indirect cost treatment, including allowability and allocability principles.
- Experience supporting financial statement audits and preparing documentation for audit review.
- Ability to communicate accounting guidance clearly to cross-functional stakeholders, including finance and operational teams.
- High level of accuracy, analytical thinking, and attention to detail in a deadline-driven environment.
