About the role

PALMS Insurance is NextEra Energy, Inc.’s wholly-owned insurance subsidiary that provides coverage for both affiliated and non-affiliated risks. The PALMS finance team is an integral part of developing strategy for managing risk and executing strategy for growth. We are seeking an Accounting Manager to join our dynamic team, specializing in Statutory and Investment Accounting within the Property and Casualty Insurance sector. This role oversees financial reporting, compliance, and accounting functions related to statutory requirements and the company's investment portfolios, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting and adherence to relevant regulations.

Responsibilities

• Prepare financial reports in compliance with GAAP and SAP to accurately reflect the financial position of the Company.
• Prepare and review statutory financial statements and reports in accordance with regulatory requirements and accounting standards.
• Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
• Ensure compliance with statutory accounting principles (SAP) and regulatory requirements.
• Monitor changes in accounting regulations and implement necessary adjustments to financial reporting processes.
• Lead the annual external audit.
• Oversee the Investment accounting process including valuation, income recognition, and reconciliations.
• Maintain current knowledge and expertise related to statutory accounting principles and regulatory reporting requirements.
• Collaborate with other departments to streamline processes, improve financial performance, and meet business objectives.
• Ensure financial data integrity through the implementation and maintenance of a strong control environment.
• Manage professional staff, and effectively communicate and execute performance management.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree.
• 8+ years of experience in accounting or finance.
• 2+ years of supervisory or management experience.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP) and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively at all levels within the organization.
• SAP or other large ERP experience.
• Advanced MS Excel skills (Pivot tables, VLOOKUPS, SUMIF).

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
• Master’s Degree.
