About the role
The Accounting Manager oversees the General Ledger, Payroll, and Accounts Payable functions while leading 2 direct reports. This role is ideal for an experienced accounting leader who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and has hands-on experience managing multi-state payroll, multi-entity accounting operations, and month-end close activities.
Responsibilities
- General Ledger (GL)
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
- Consolidate multi-company P&Ls
- Ensure accurate journal entries and reconciliations
- Maintain chart of accounts and multi-company working papers
- Analyze variances versus budget and forecast
- Ensure proper accounting treatment in compliance with GAAP/IFRS
- Quantify KPI and commission schedules
- Support annual, FAR, and 401(k) audits
- Payroll Management
- Lead and oversee all payroll operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely processing
- Manage complex multi-state payroll activities across multiple entities and employee populations
- Cook with HR to ensure accurate employee, compensation, and benefits data
- Oversee payroll tax filings, reporting requirements, and regulatory compliance
- Review and complete payroll reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
- Continuously evaluate and improve payroll processes, controls, and efficiency
- Accounts Payable (AP)
- Lead and develop the AP function, ensuring timely and accurate processing of a high volume of invoices and payments
- Review and approve payment runs while maintaining strong internal controls
- Maintain key vendor relationships and resolve escalated issues
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and scalability
- Compliance and System Implementation
- Manage business licenses and state registrations
- Lead implementation of Navan, an AI-powered corporate travel and expense management platform
- Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead, coach, and develop accounting staff
- Partner with cross-functional teams to resolve issues
- Implement process improvements and present reports to leadership
- Foster accountability, continuous improvement, and strong team performance across accounting operations
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 4+ years of progressive accounting experience across GL, Payroll, and AP
- Experience managing General Ledger balances exceeding $100M in a multi-entity environment
- Hands-on multi-state payroll experience for 300+ employees, including processing, tax filings, and compliance
- Hands-on AP experience overseeing high-volume invoice processing, payment runs, and vendor management
- Experience with month-end close, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and consolidations
- Experience supporting audits, internal controls, and working paper preparation
- 1+ years of professional services industry experience
- 2+ years of people management experience with oversight of Payroll and AP functions
- Proven success in fast-paced, high-volume environments
- Proficiency with ERP and payroll systems; Vantagepoint preferred

- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
Skills
- Strong understanding of GAAP/IFRS
- Experience with payroll systems (Vantagepoint preferred)
- ERP system experience (preferred)
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Experience with project management tools (optional)
Benefits
- Salary range of $105,000 - $120,000 depending upon qualifications, experience, and overall fit
