Accounting Manager

About the Role
We are seeking a highly accountable and detail-oriented Accounting Manager who demonstrates strong ownership and reliability, particularly during critical financial reporting cycles. This role is critical to ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, driving accountability in the close process, and supporting informed business decision-making in a deadline-driven environment. Experience supporting manufacturing, distribution, or wholesale environments is highly desirable.
The Accounting Manager will lead general accounting activities, own the close process, and partner cross-functionally across the organization. This position supervises a Senior Staff Accountant and an Accounts Receivable Specialist and serves as a key backup to the Controller, helping ensure continuity of accounting operations.

Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Close
- Own and drive the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring deadlines are met and deliverables are accurate and complete.
- Manage general ledger activities, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
- Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Analyze financial results and variances, identify root causes, and provide actionable insights.
- Maintain and enhance internal controls and accounting policies.
- Oversee fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, and construction-in-progress (CIP).
Collaboration & Leadership
- Supervise and develop the Senior Staff Accountant and Accounts Receivable Specialist, including performance management and coaching.
- Establish clear expectations and accountability for quality, timeliness, and accuracy.
- Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, Sales, and Cost Accounting to ensure alignment and accurate financial reporting.
- Collaborate with AP and Purchasing to ensure appropriate coding and tax treatment of transactions.
Regulatory Compliance
- Support internal and external audits, lender reporting, and compliance requirements.
- Provide backup support for payroll tax compliance.
- Ensure continuity and accuracy of sales and use tax compliance.
- Prepare financial data for federal and state corporate income tax filings.
- Complete and submit government census data requests.
Business Support & Continuity
- Serve as backup to the Controller to ensure continuity of financial operations.
- Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and process improvement initiatives.
- Participate in ERP enhancements, reporting improvements, and process optimization initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- CPA designation preferred (or actively pursuing).
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including general ledger and close.
- 3+ years of supervisory or leadership experience.
- Experience preparing financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Experience with sales and use tax compliance and reconciliations, including backup support and process oversight.
- Experience with ERP systems and advanced Excel skills.
- Must be available to support critical month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, including occasional extended hours as business needs require.
Pay
Salary Range: $115K – $130K
