About the role
Supports Guide Dogs for the Blind's mission with seamless financial operations. Trains guide dogs to create partnerships with individuals who are blind or visually impaired.
Responsibilities
- Maintain all fixed asset accounting and reporting
- Prepare journal entries, perform general ledger reconciliations
- Contribute to accounting policy development
- Complete audits and assist with various financial reports and procedures for management
- Advise on budgets, financial strategy, financial reporting, and forecasting
- Maintain all fixed asset accounting and reporting
- Work closely with the CFO, Controller, and Treasurer to prepare accurate and timely month-end close packages and quarterly board reports
- Analyze restricted accounts and develop reporting and variance analyses of the departmental operating budget versus actual expenses
- Provide day-to-day supervision and leadership to the accounting team and ensure there is a redundant process backup in place for all critical tasks
- Collaborate with the HR team to ensure payroll and benefit policy compliance and oversee and review complex full-cycle, multi-state biweekly payroll for 300+ employees, acting as a backup for the payroll specialist as needed
- Track investment portfolio transactions and purchases, sales, transfers, income, verifying that cost basis and market values are accurately recorded by the Custodian
- Deliver timely filing of annual 403(b) census reporting, IRS form 990, property taxes, quarterly sales tax returns, and Department of Rehab match reporting
Requirements
- BS in Business Administration with a major in accounting or finance; Certified Public Accountant certificate and experience in a non-profit setting desired
- Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and principles of accounting as applied to non-profit accounting practices; investment accounting and restricted accounting knowledge desired
- Strong knowledge of automated financial recordkeeping systems; experience with NetSuite and Adaptive Planning a plus
- Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams and committees with excellent attention to detail and sound judgment skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and advanced skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
