About the role
The Accounting Manager will serve as the accounting lead for the Community business, which oversees property management operations across Good Carbon’s portfolio and begin building a partnership with the Construction business for role expansion and growth. This role ensures the financial integrity of property and community-level reporting while partnering closely with operational leadership to support performance, decision-making, and long-term asset value. This is a hands-on leadership role combining team management, technical accounting, and cross-functional collaboration with property operations, development, and shared services.
What You'll Do
- Financial Ownership & Close Process: Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for the Community business and underlying properties
- Ensure accurate, timely, and fully reconciled financial statements across all managed assets including those to investors and funding agencies
- Oversee account reconciliations, variance analysis, and issue resolution
- Maintain strong internal controls and consistency across properties
- Manage Audit preparation and coordination
- Business Partnership (Community Leadership): Act as the primary finance partner to the General Manager of the Community business unit
- Participate In Leadership Meetings, Providing Financial Insights Tied To Property Performance, Operating Costs, Leasing and Maintenance Activity
- Translate financial data into actionable insights for non-finance stakeholders
- Team Leadership & Development: Directly manage and develop two accountants with differing responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day guidance, coaching, and performance feedback
- Have dotted line leadership with an analyst reporting to the controller and the Community AP specialist sitting in Shared Services
- Establish clear workflows, accountability, and continuous improvement within the team
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead annual budgeting process for Community and individual properties by partnering with operations to develop realistic, performance-driven budgets
- Monitor performance against budget and support re-forecasting as needed
- Special Projects, Value Creation & Partnership: Take ownership of Community-related special projects (process improvements, system enhancements, reporting upgrades)
- Identify opportunities to: Improve efficiency, Increase financial visibility, Support scaling of the portfolio, Proactively create and lead initiatives that drive operational and financial impact
- Develop relationships with Construction Managers and Finance personnel to gain a comprehensive understanding of the draw process, deferred revenue, and operational workflows, with the objective of assuming accounting oversight of this area as readiness is established
Requirements
- 5 - 8+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role
- Masters in Accounting or equivalent strongly preferred
- Proven ability to manage multiple entities, business units, or cost centers
- Strong understanding of GAAP
- Extra consideration given to real estate, property management, or multi-entity environment experience
- Experience working cross-functionally with operations teams
Salary
$100,000 - $115,000 per year
