Fieldguide is an early stage start-up focused on building software to automate and streamline the work of assurance and audit practitioners, particularly in cybersecurity, privacy, and financial audit. Responsibilities
- Own significant areas of the monthly close, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, variance analysis, and financial reporting.
- Manage accounting for key areas such as revenue, accounts receivable, payroll, commissions, operating expenses, prepaids, and fixed assets.
- Review contracts and business activities to identify and resolve accounting implications.
- Own and continuously improve accounting workflows in Rillet and other tools within our finance technology stack.
- Build processes and controls that improve accuracy without creating unnecessary complexity.
- Use AI and automation to reduce manual work and improve the speed and quality of the close.
- Partner with Strategic Finance and teams across the company to ensure transactions are recorded correctly and issues are addressed early.
- Support the annual audit, tax filings, and other compliance requirements.
- Take ownership of new accounting projects as the company and our products continue to evolve.
Requirements
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally including experience at a high-growth startup or SaaS company.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and experience managing a monthly close.
- Experience with revenue recognition and other accounting issues common to subscription software businesses.
- A track record of independently researching problems, developing a point of view, and driving issues to resolution.
- Strong critical-thinking skills and the ability to identify when a process, transaction, or result does not make sense.
- Comfort operating in an environment where processes may still need to be created or improved.
- Experience using AI tools in day-to-day work and curiosity about how they can improve accounting operations.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively across teams.
Bonus points
- Experience with Rillet.
- CPA and/or public accounting experience.
- Experience improving or automating accounting processes in a scaling organization.
