Accounting Manager
About the Role
Our client is a well-capitalized real estate developer operating across California, seeking an Accounting Manager to own day-to-day accounting operations and lead financial reporting efforts. This role works closely with cross-functional teams and offers visibility into a growing organization's financial operations. The company has several active projects across Southern California and is expanding, providing exposure to strategic decisions through direct collaboration with external auditors and senior leadership. This is a stable, well-capitalized company where real estate accounting experience is valued and developed.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and coordinate quarterly and annual financial statements, including related schedules and disclosures
- Ensure accounting practices align with U.S. GAAP standards, including ASC 606 (revenue recognition) and ASC 842 (lease accounting)
- Act as a key liaison with external auditors and support the annual audit from start to finish
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial analyses
- Apply technical accounting knowledge across areas, including cost capitalization, asset impairments, and equity and debt transactions
- Build and refine accounting policies, internal controls, and departmental procedures
- Collaborate with other teams to identify financial risks and communicate findings clearly
- Contribute to process improvement efforts, including automation and cost-efficiency initiatives
- Support business development and transaction-related accounting needs
- Conduct technical accounting research and assist with ad hoc projects as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- 5 years of accounting or finance experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory capacity
- Solid working knowledge of U.S. GAAP
- Advanced Excel skills
- Experience with accounting software systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in real estate or homebuilding
- Active CPA license
- MBA or other advanced degree
- Familiarity with NewStar/Constellation accounting systems
Pay
Salary Range: $115,000 - $130,000. The final salary may vary based on job-related factors, including education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and business needs.
