Position Description
Manages and actively participates in day-to-day tasks and operations of the accounting department. Ensures financial accuracy across all operations. Responsible for budgets, supervises accounting staff and adheres to all Credit Union compliance standards with internal accounting policies, regulations, financial controls, and credit union industry standards. Works closely with CFO, Executive Management, and department managers to ensure completeness, quality, and compliance of all Credit Union products.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Manage all general ledger balancing and activity.
- Reconcile GL accounts daily, weekly, and/or monthly.
- Maintain accounting policies and procedures.
- Coincides internal/external audits and provides necessary documentation.
- Performs all functions necessary for the balancing of Federal Reserve cash, ACH transactions, share drafts, mortgage loans, back up withholding for IRAs, deposit chargebacks, electronic transfers, wire transfers, accounts payable, escheat funds or unclaimed property to applicable States, corporate VISA reconciliations, and VISA program activities.
- Processes and research Regulation E claims (reclamations, DNE entries, etc.).
- Performs all functions related to fraud and forgery resolution by reporting to the Credit Union bond insurance company.
- Completes all reporting requirements with VISA, Symitar, Wisdom, Fiserv, and MoneyPass.
- Assists with the month-end/year-end closing processes and prepares accurate, timely financial statements.
- Reviews journal entries, reconciliations, and account balances. Ensures Wisdom and Symitar are in balance.
- Provides staff and member assistance and resolves complex issues.
- Creates necessary branch reports, including monthly management report.
- Performs other related duties, including special projects, as needed or requested.
Supervisor Responsibilities
- Ensure staff is properly trained and informed by: Training and coaching in practices and procedures, applicable to each position. This is expected ongoing (everyday) as needed to ensure the proper growth and development of staff.
- Conducts timely (at least monthly and more often if necessary) department meetings to discuss or review problems and/or explain new procedures.
- Ensures staff completes assigned yearly training duties assigned by Executive Management in relation to their specific duties.
- Aids in the coaching/disciplining of employees, as needed.
- Aids in managing the performance of employees which include: Enforces Credit Union policies and procedures in the form of verbal and/or written warnings. Evaluates employee performance in the form of written evaluations. Conduct one-on-one meetings with individual employees to ensure goals are being met and that performance is being monitored and measured for accountability and/or any additional training.
Education And/or Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited university.
- Strong understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
- Minimum three years’ experience in a supervisory or management role.
- Must have worked in a financial institution for a minimum of five years, with at least three years’ experience with a Credit Union.
