About the role
The Accounting Manager will own all aspects of the accounting and general ledger of the organization. This role is responsible for full-cycle accounting, month-end close processes, quarterly and annual compliance, annual budgeting, and providing insights to support data-driven decision-making. The ideal candidate is a proactive strategic thinker comfortable with balance sheet reconciliations, internal controls, and compliance, thriving in dynamic, fast-paced environments with an eye for process improvement.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and reconcile general ledgers for domestic entities.
- Prepare and upload journal entries.
- Maintain fixed asset roll-forward schedules and account for acquisitions, capitalization, changes in useful lives, dispositions, and impairments.
- Own the accounts payable process.
- Manage e-commerce revenue recognition and inventory valuations.
- Reconcile sub-ledger to general ledger account balances.
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
- Assess internal control evaluations and provide insight to management about areas of risk.
- Support the annual budget process by providing variance analyses.
- Assist in preparation of MLS NEXT Pro related reporting, including post-game and annual league financial reporting.
- Prepare tax-related filings.
- Ensure proper recognition of ticket and sponsorship revenue in accordance with applicable accounting standards, including deferred revenue balances.
- Ensure all accruals are properly assessed for cut-off and recorded.
- Identify process improvement opportunities and contribute to streamlining accounting operations.
- Assist with ad-hoc requests and other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- At least three years in an accounting-related role, public, or corporate accounting experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- Solid understanding of GAAP, month-end close process, basic tax compliance, internal controls, and variance analysis.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically intermediate Excel skills (pivots, lookups, etc.).
- Strong written and verbal communication with the ability to build positive working relationships internally and externally.
- Self-starter, self-motivated, and able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills with an eye for process and structure improvement.
- Comfortable working both in a team environment and independently with minimal guidance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Shopify and accounting software comparable to Sage 50 or QuickBooks Desktop.
- Experience with Michigan tax filings.
