About the Role

The ideal candidate will share Reedley College’s commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. As of fall 2017, Reedley College enrolls over 10,000 students: 71% Latinx, 1% Filipino, 3% Asian, 2% African American, 19% White, and 2% multiracial. The college is a Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting its responsibility to the educational attainment and economic well-being of the surrounding community. The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to curriculum responsive to the students it serves.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain standards of professional conduct, ethics, and currency in teaching Accounting.
  • Teach courses including Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Computerized Accounting, Applied Accounting, and Work Experience in Accounting.
  • Use a variety of pedagogies and integrate instructional delivery systems, including technology for face-to-face, online, and hybrid formats.
  • Communicate effectively with students and use teaching methods appropriate to the subject matter.
  • Adhere to institutionally approved curriculum and course outlines of record.
  • Evaluate student progress through tests, examinations, written assignments, and oral responses.
  • Provide course syllabi to students and maintain classroom records in accordance with District Policy.
  • Submit required student grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner.
  • Fulfill all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.

Requirements

  • Master’s in accountancy or business administration with accounting concentration; OR
  • Bachelor’s in business with accounting emphasis, business administration with accounting emphasis, or economics with an accounting emphasis AND master’s in business, business administration, business education, economics, taxation, finance, or equivalent; OR
  • A valid California Community College credential; OR
  • Equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

Note: A bachelor’s degree in accountancy or business administration with accounting concentration, combined with a CPA license, is an alternative qualification for this discipline.

  • Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Commitment to equity-minded practice within the classroom.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Broad-based academic preparation in Accounting.
  • Professional competency as evidenced by successful work experience and college teaching experience in Accounting.
  • Enthusiasm for teaching and assisting students to succeed.
  • Related work and professional experience.
  • Experience in computer-assisted instruction and other instructional technologies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (oral and written) and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and administration.
  • Ability to develop new and current curriculum with a focus on student learning outcomes.
  • Experience working with students of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Recent experience working with African American, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom.
  • Understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion in higher education shape participation and outcomes.
  • Willingness to examine and remediate instructional, relational, and classroom practices to support racially minoritized students.
  • Experience and skill in addressing issues of equity in the classroom.
  • Potential for contribution to institutional vitality and growth.
  • Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.

Pay

Starting rates are $45.49 – $61.78 for lecture and $38.67 – $52.55 for lab.

Benefits

Sick leave accrual is based on assignment hours.
