Accounting / Finance Internship

About the role

Gordon Food Service offers a 12‑week paid internship program at its Home Office. Interns gain firsthand experience on meaningful projects, work alongside industry professionals, receive mentorship and professional development, and participate in networking opportunities that expose them to various aspects of the food service industry.

Responsibilities

• Work alongside the department team that serves customers, employees, and partners across North America and Canada.
• Collaborate with other interns and employees in Communications, Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, IT, Marketing & Merchandising, Supply Chain, and Sales.
• Focus on sales, profit margin, expenses, and operational processes in the Finance/Accounting department.
• Use business intelligence tools to create performance snapshots, track inventory, evaluate customer profitability, complete financial reviews for credit worthiness, and identify benchmark metrics to predict future performance.
• Execute the monthly financial close process, maintain the general ledger, reconcile balance sheets, manage cash and financial positions, prepare financial statements, prepare senior‑management financial materials, create an operating plan for the next year, and track capital budgeting and expenditures.
• Attend unique networking opportunities inside and outside the office.
• Engage in the mentorship program.
• Shadow jobs across the organization to explore career‑path potential.
• Participate in community and stewardship efforts.
• Develop personal and professional skills through workshops on communication, LinkedIn, presenting, and related topics.
• Embed directly with a team that treats AI as a core collaborator, gaining hands‑on experience using and developing intelligent systems to deliver real‑world business impact.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a university pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Operational Finance, or a related field.
• Authorized to work in the United States.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher.
