Accounting Co-Op Spring 2027
About the role
The co-op position is a full-time opportunity beginning in Spring 2027, based in the Cincinnati, OH headquarters of Great American Financial Division.
Responsibilities
Corporate Accounting Department: Prepare schedules to support the monthly consolidated financial statements, prepare monthly tax provisions and book general ledger entries, assist with the preparation and distribution of the monthly earnings packages, prepare annual/quarterly statutory-basis statements and filings.
Investment Accounting Department: Prepare monthly closing package and supporting schedules, record investment income and carrying values into the subsidiaries' general ledgers, analysis of investment results and investigation of variances, prepare annual/quarterly statutory-basis statements and filings.
Financial Reporting Department: Assist in the preparation of AFG’s SEC forms 10-K, 10-Q and 13-F, prepare financial statements and supporting schedules for the AFG managed collateralized loan obligations (CLOs), proofread and perform other clerical duties related to the preparation of AFG’s SEC forms 10-K and/or 10-Q, prepare and/or review various internal management reports using Excel, the Company’s general ledger system, and SEC reporting system.
Treasury Operations Department: Support bank account reconciliations and transaction monitoring, assist with bank account maintenance, help maintain and update supplier payment methods, help with data validation and cleanup in Excel or ERP systems, participate in treasury transformation or system upgrade projects.
Internal Audit Department: Perform internal audits and review internal controls for effectiveness and efficiency, test the reasonableness of financial balances and ensure compliance with statutory and generally accepted accounting principles, prepare electronic audit workpapers in accordance with company and external audit standards, inform the audit coordinator of the progress of assignments and discuss results and recommendations for improvement with audit team and company management.
Qualifications
Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program with a major in accounting, finance, or a related field.
Strong analytical and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Basic knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
