Accounting Associate
What You’ll Do
You'll help ensure the accuracy and integrity of Whataburger's financial reporting by supporting key accounting processes, analyzing financial transactions, and contributing to timely period-end reporting.

Responsibilities
Analyze corporate and segment accounting transactions
Prepare and post journal entries
Support month-end close activities
Reconcile and analyze balance sheet accounts
Research and explain account variances
Prepare financial reports and supporting schedules
Monitor and report key accounting performance metrics
Identify issues and recommend process improvements
Parenthetical with cross-functional teams to resolve accounting matters
Maintain accurate financial records and documentation
Support special projects and additional accounting assignments as needed
Safeguard company assets through sound financial practices

Required Experience
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience
- Experience working with financial data, accounting processes, or administrative support functions
- The ability to follow established accounting procedures with strong attention to detail
- An analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
- A strong organizational and time management skills
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- The ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- The ability to build collaborative working relationships across teams
Desired Experience
We prefer you to have:
- An associate's or bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Experience with account reconciliations and journal entries
- Knowledge of month-end close processes
- Experience analyzing financial transactions and account activity
- Experience working with ERP systems such as JD Edwards
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Experience supporting financial reporting and variance analysis
- A continuous improvement mindset with a focus on process efficiency
Where & How You’ll Work
This role is based at the San Antonio Home Office, working on-site Monday through Thursday with remote flexibility on Fridays.
The work environment is fast-paced and requires sound judgment, strategic thinking, and strong collaboration skills.
Full-time availability is required, with occasional extended hours based on business needs, along with occasional travel to properties, project sites, and external meetings.
Candidates must reside within commuting distance of the San Antonio Home Office.
