Accounting Associate
About the role
A stable, growing manufacturing and industrial organization in Oakland County is seeking an Accounting Associate on a contract-to-hire basis. This role offers hands-on involvement in daily accounting operations, exposure to an ERP transition, and valuable experience in process improvement and system implementation.
Responsibilities
- Process, code, and enter vendor invoices accurately and efficiently.
- Review invoices for proper approvals, coding, and completeness.
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.
- Manage accounts receivable activities, including customer invoicing and payment tracking.
- Follow up on past-due accounts and assist with collections efforts.
- Support job closing activities by ensuring costs are captured and reconciled properly.
- Prepare monthly reconciliations for accounts payable, accounts receivable, and job costing.
- Aid in month-end and year-end close activities.
- Support ERP conversion efforts, including data cleanup and migration to Epicor.
- Collaborate with production, purchasing, project management, and operations teams to verify costs and gather supporting documentation.
- Maintain accurate accounting records and ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
- Assist with reporting and special projects as needed.
Qualifications
- 2–4 years of accounting experience.
- Experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Solid understanding of accounting principles and internal controls.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Preferred
- Mechanical engineering or manufacturing, industrial, or project-based accounting experience.
- Experience with job costing, job closing, or cost accounting.
- Experience with JobBOSS or similar job-cost tracking software.
- Familiarity with Epicor ERP or willingness to learn.
- Experience resolving invoice discrepancies and managing aging receivables.
