About the role
The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is recruiting for an Accountant 2.1 to support the Great Falls District. This position can be located in the Great Falls office or the Havre office.
Responsibilities
- Providing high-level accounting support to District staff by providing technical assistance on cost centers
- Performing reconciliations
- Processing journals
- Researching accounting transactions and errors
- Account coding guidance
- Performing financial analysis to ensure consistent and proper accounting treatment between programs
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field, OR 4 years of related experience in lieu of a degree
- 1 year of related accounting or financial experience
- Alternative combinations of related experience or education may be considered
- Must pass a name-based background investigation as a condition of employment
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Ability to apply the concepts and theories of government finance, accounting and budgeting
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Ability to formulate recommendations based on analysis of financial transactions
