Accompanist

Qualifications

This position requires knowledge of basic music theory, including harmony and notation fundamentals, and effective piano accompaniment methods. The candidate must be skilled in playing various musical forms on the piano, such as classical, popular, jazz, and folk music, and be able to sight-read, transpose, and improvise. They should also understand complex oral and written instructions, maintain records, and establish effective work relationships. A valid Class "C" California driver's license is required, and a criminal history check will be conducted prior to employment.

Requirements

• One year of experience as a professional accompanist for soloists, choruses, dance groups, or as a pianist with a recognized musical organization.
• Graduation from an accredited school of music with specialization in piano may substitute for the desired experience.

Duties

Provide piano or other specified instrumental accompaniment for music classes, choral groups, vocal ensembles, soloists, rehearsals, performances, and other school activities. This includes improvising or playing from scores as necessary. The position receives general to limited supervision from a certificated teacher or school site administrator and requires specialized skills in reading, interpreting, and arranging music.

Pay

Starting salary: $2,361.45 (monthly)

Schedule

• Number of months: 9.4 (to begin as soon as possible)
• Daily working hours: 8:35 a.m. to 3:19 p.m. (6 hours)
