Job Summary

This position facilitates the provision of reasonable accommodations for university students with disabilities to ensure equitable access to the institution's programs, services, and activities. Key Job Responsibilities

  • Facilitates the interactive process in collaboration with populations with disabilities, students, instructors, and staff to determine reasonable accommodations
  • Provides consultative services to staff regarding appropriate services and accommodations
  • Conducts intake assessments, maintains current data records, and determines eligibility for disability services
  • Consults with clinician professionals to evaluate access needs and allocate resources
  • Provides information and resources regarding legal rights and responsibilities to populations with disabilities and their support systems
  • Affords assistance in the development of programs and initiatives that promote awareness, sensitivity, advocacy, and competence in ensuring access for individuals with disabilities

Department

The McBurney Disability Resource Center is the office for students with disabilities and classroom accommodations on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. As part of the student accommodation process, we work collaboratively with students and instructors to provide and support effective student accommodations. We strive to create an inclusive campus environment that allows students to engage, explore, and participate in the Wisconsin Idea. We work with over 6,000 students annually, have a strong collaborative team, and partner with students, instructors, staff, student organizations, and others throughout the campus and community.

Compensation

The expected minimum starting salary for this position is $60,000.00 annually. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications. Required Qualifications

  • Direct contact and experience working with individuals with an array of disabilities
  • Basic understanding of federal and state laws regarding disability rights
  • Knowledge of disability rights and disability culture
  • Experience working with disabled students in an educational setting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: Required: Bachelor's Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Social Work, Special Education, or a related field PLUS years of successful, relevant experience.
  • Preferred: Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Social Work, Special Education, or a related field at the start of the position.
