About the role
The Plutonium Capability Transuranic Waste Management group's (NPI-6) Acceptable Knowledge team at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) seeks a highly motivated Research Technologist level 1 to perform technical work requiring advanced knowledge in science or engineering. Projects will involve technical depth and understanding, contributing to the development, implementation, and completion of project objectives.
Responsibilities
- Supporting production work for vital National Security Initiatives.
- Works collaboratively toward predetermined goals and objectives.
- May supply ideas and/or input to proposals.
- May act as lead while reviewing activities of programmatic organizations for larger projects success.
- Works to expedite characterization and transfer of hazardous/mixed hazardous materials for disposition.
Requirements
- Regulations: Demonstrates knowledge of standard principles, concepts and techniques in area of technical specialty (chemistry, environmental science/policy, etc.). Demonstrates some knowledge of industry, DOE/National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) complex codes, standards and criteria pertinent to a particular area of research or environmental law.
- Skills/Experience: Experience contributing to the development of new principles and concepts, specifications for project implementation, and verifying that the end product meets expectations and requirements. Knowledge of scientific principles, experimental processes, mathematical formulas, computations and data gathering methods.
- Leadership/Followership: Ability to work under collaborative direction and guidance toward predetermined goals and objectives. Experience supervising some portion of projects, preparing documentation, and providing peer-review of the documentation for other members of a team.
Qualifications
- Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and 2 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. A degree related to chemistry or environmental science is preferred.
- Desired Qualifications: Knowledge of TA-55 facility operations and NPI mission. Experience working within LANL policies and procedures. Knowledge or experience using Waste and Nuclear Materials Management databases such as Waste Characterization and Tracking System (WCATS), LAMCAS, and LANMAS. Familiarity or experience working in support of waste characterization, hazardous waste management (RCRA). Experience working in a Nuclear Facility. Knowledge or experience with hazardous material shipping and the hazardous waste processes.
