Position Overview
Job Description
- Tutoring activities include, but are not limited to, reading aloud to students, providing students a chance to practice reading, facilitating activities to improve specific skills such as fluency and comprehension in reading/literacy, working through math problems with students, explaining concepts, and facilitating activities to improve specific skills such as conservation of number and automaticity in mathematics.
- To promote progress in reading and math, the tutor will have a regular tutoring schedule with students and maintain consistent communication with parents.
Required Qualifications
- Tutor MUST qualify for and accept Federal Work Study to become a tutor.
- Tutor MUST have transportation to and from the Lawrence Public Library.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Children in schools, camp, or other settings.
- Interest and passion for working with children in pre-Kindergarten through grade nine.
- Self-motivation and desire to go "above and beyond" to promote student learning.
- Responsibility and personal accountability for completing tasks; attention to details and deadlines.
- Elementary or Middle/Secondary Education major.
- Commit to working through the summer, with option to work into the academic year.
Position Requirements
- Employment Conditions: (2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
