Academic Tutor & Mentor (Entry Level, Paid, Full-time)

About the role

City Year AmeriCorps members serve as student success coaches and mentors, providing academic and socio-emotional support to elementary, middle, and/or high school students. Teams of members work within schools to ensure students receive a high-quality education and develop the skills and mindset to thrive in their communities.

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 and in small groups to improve literacy, math, attendance, and positive behaviors
• Develop and implement individualized behavior management systems and track student progress in collaboration with teachers
• Plan and lead extended-day and virtual programming including academic enrichment, homework support, clubs, service learning, and leadership development
• Co-lead events or programs that recognize student growth in math, literacy, attendance, and behavior
• Create safe, engaging, and healthy classroom spaces in partnership with teachers

Requirements

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident
• Be 17–25 years old by July 1, 2025
• Hold a high-school diploma, GED, some college, or a college degree
• Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program
• Pass a background check
• Be available to begin service in July/August 2025 (start date varies by location)
