Academic Program Director - Engineering Technology

About the Role

Serves as Academic Program Director for the College's Engineering Technology Program, overseeing systematically planned and delivered instruction, program and curriculum design, fiscal management, administrative support through committees, and student advising and evaluation. Teaches classroom and laboratory-based college-level engineering technology and related courses in electrical, mechanical, civil, advanced manufacturing, mechatronics, or other engineering fields.

Responsibilities

• Teaching Performance: Demonstrates ability to present course materials through appropriate instructional strategies to facilitate the learning process.
• Program Curriculum and Personnel: Assists the Dean with curriculum development and personnel issues. Evaluates program and course content to achieve program and College outcomes goals, including curriculum development, implementation, or elimination.
• Budget, Property, and Inventory: Assists the Dean with budget and property management. Responsible for development, tracking, and management of fiscal affairs, including forecasting personnel and equipment needs.
• Instructional Development and Management: Develops, revises, and maintains courses, syllabi, lesson plans, and curriculum. Manages and controls classroom activities. Observes required office hours and submits grades and reports accurately and timely.
• Student Advisement: Advises students on personal and professional development and provides academic guidance to assigned advisees and enrolled students.
• Professional Development: Participates in internal and external professional development activities to expand knowledge and skills. Engages in college activities such as committees, recruitment, promotional events, and public service to promote the college.
• Performs all other assigned duties.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in engineering technology, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, industrial engineering, or a related field with a minimum of two (2) years of work experience in an engineering-related occupation.
• Valid driver's license.
• Knowledge of effective teaching concepts and adherence to current college policies (or willingness to learn).
• Ability to adhere to designated work schedule and attend meetings or conferences as scheduled.
• Ability to establish good working relationships with students, faculty, alumni, workforce partners, businesses, and others in the college community.
• Ability to maintain excellence in instructional effectiveness and classroom management through effective communication and interaction with students.
• Specialization in electrical/electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, or a related engineering technology field.
• Ability to facilitate courses with hands-on components to enhance critical thinking, problem-solving, work-based, and applied learning.

Preferred Qualifications

• A master's degree in engineering technology, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, industrial engineering, or a related field.
• Five (5) years of experience in the engineering technology field.
• A professional engineering license.
• Experience teaching at a community or technical college.
• Supervisory work experience or team leadership.
• Experience in mechatronics, robotics, and/or workplace automation.

Additional Information

Employee will work under limited supervision provided by the Dean of Workforce Development and Continuing Education, demonstrating independence and discretion in teaching and student advising. Teaching environments include classrooms and labs. Local travel to business/industry, community campuses, correctional facilities, high schools, and other sites is required. Some short-term travel may be needed for professional meetings, and professional development may require occasional overnight stays.
