Academic Coordinator
About the role
Upward Bound is a federal grant-funded project that supports high school students from low-income families and those whose parents do not have a bachelor's degree. The goal is to help these students succeed in their pre-college performance and prepare them for higher education.
Responsibilities
- Create and deliver academic enrichment programs to enhance high school achievement.
- Cookordinate and conduct group advising sessions for new program participants.
- Assist with planning college visits and residential weeks.
- Assist with in-person and online recruitment workshops at high schools and community sites.
- Maintain and update student records and information, including Academic Progress Plans and inputting case notes into the data system.
- Actively build educational relationships with students, parents, and school officials.
- Coordinate the annual newsletter.
- Maintain and input accurate data on attendance of program participants into the data system.
- Collect both quantitative and qualitative data related to student progress.
- Provide necessary data for the program’s annual performance reports to the Department of Education.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Education, Human Services, or a related field.
- Experience aiding and advising secondary students on entering post-secondary education.
- Proven ability to initiate and maintain cooperative working relationships with others, including high school students, campus personnel, and students, parents, and colleagues.
- Proficiency in computer applications including the Microsoft and Google suite of programs.
- Knowledge, understanding, and acceptance of cultural differences and the diversity within the campus and community.
- At least one-year experience in secondary school advising, teaching, or pre-college outreach.
- TRIO experience.
- Knowledge of Texas High School curriculum.
- Versatility in verbal proficiency in Spanish.
Benefits
The position is funded through a grant and is contingent upon the continued availability of grant funding. Employment may be affected if funding is reduced, discontinued, or otherwise unavailable.
Pay
$41,371.20 annually. The final offer for the successful candidate will be commensurate with experience and may exceed the starting annual salary.
Schedule
Must be available to work extended hours, including Saturdays and evening hours.
