Teachers generally work from mid-July (beginning with professional development before students arrive) through late May. Workdays are generally 7:10 AM-3:45 PM, Monday through Friday. Mondays extend to 4:30 PM and include mandatory Professional Development time. Anticipated school hours and days vary annually based on changes to the school calendar. Position Title: Academic & Behavioral Intervention Specialist Position Information Department: Student Intervention and Support Reports to: MTSS Coordinator Work Schedule: 10-month (mid/late July - mid/late May)Employment Type: Full time, ExemptLocation: Harvey, LAStart Date: July 20th, 2026 Position Summary Jefferson RISE Charter School is seeking a highly motivated Academic & Behavioral Intervention Specialist (ABIS) to provide intensive academic and behavioral support to students requiring Tier II and Tier III interventions. The ABIS serves as the primary case manager for an assigned caseload of students and is responsible for coordinating academic, behavioral, attendance, and social-emotional supports designed to improve student outcomes. Through intervention planning, progress monitoring, mentoring, coaching, family engagement, and direct student support, the ABIS helps students overcome barriers to success and develop the skills necessary for long-term growth. Key Responsibilities Student Case Management Serve as the primary case manager for an assigned caseload of students receiving Tier II or Tier III supportsDevelop and maintain individualized intervention plansCoordinate academic, behavioral, attendance, and social-emotional supportsMonitor student progress toward identified goalsMaintain accurate and timely documentation of interventions and student progressFacilitate intervention review meetings and adjust supports based on student data Academic Intervention Provide direct academic support and coaching to assigned studentsAssist students with organization, planning, study skills, goal setting, and academic engagementMonitor academic performance and identify barriers to successCollaborate with teachers to develop and implement classroom supportsSupport students in developing self-management and academic success skills Behavioral Intervention Implement individualized behavior interventions aligned to student needsProvide direct instruction in behavioral, social, and self-regulation skillsConduct regular student check-ins and coaching sessionsSupport implementation of behavior contracts, mentoring programs, and Check-In/Check-Out systemsConduct student observations and collect behavioral dataCollaborate with staff to ensure intervention consistency across settings Family Engagement Maintain regular communication with families regarding student progressDevelop collaborative partnerships with parents and guardiansFacilitate conferences and meetings related to intervention plansConnect families with available resources and support services when appropriate CANDIDATE PROFILE Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent requiredMinimum of two years of experience working with adolescents in education, youth development, mentoring, behavior support, social services, counseling, coaching, or a related fieldDemonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students and familiesStrong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skillsAbility to maintain confidentiality and exercise professional judgment Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree preferredExperience with MTSS, PBIS, RTI, behavior intervention, case management, or mentoring programsExperience providing academic intervention or instructional supportExperience working with at-risk youth Culture and Fit Believes every student can improve when provided individualized support and consistent accountabilityBuilds strong relationships with students and familiesMaintains high expectations while providing meaningful supportUses data to monitor progress and adjust interventionsOpen to feedback and committed to continuous growthCollaborative, dependable, and student-centered Compensation Jefferson RISE offers competitive compensation tied to performance and qualifications. We do not follow a traditional salary schedule - annual salaries reflect the outcomes teachers drive and the value they bring to students and the school. Annual Salary Ranges: $40,000 - $50,000 starting salary depending on degree level, certification, content, previous student outcomes, and experienceAdditional Stipends Available: Employees may be eligible for stipends or supplemental compensation for approved responsibilities that extend beyond the regular duties of their position. Examples may include athletic coaching, club sponsorship, leadership, special projects, additional workdays, extended hours, or other assigned duties. Eligibility and amounts are determined by the school and may vary from year to year.Raises and Bonuses: We believe exceptional performance should be recognized. Employees may be eligible for performance-based raises and bonuses.
