SouthWest Metro Intermediate District #288 is hiring a part-time Adult ESL Instructor starting August 2026 at the Dean Lakes Education Center in Shakopee, MN. The district serves students across 11 member and 8 associate districts in the southwestern Twin Cities metro area, offering programs in Special Education, Career and Technical Education, Care & Treatment, Adult Education, and Alternative Education.
About the role
This position involves 185 contract days, working 8 hours per day. You will empower adult English learners through personalized, student-centered instruction in a supportive environment.
Responsibilities
- Teach adult English learners using a scaffolded, student-centered curriculum.
- Collaborate with instructors, community education staff, and administrators.
- Adapt lessons to meet learners' language levels, goals, and cultural experiences.
- Help learners build skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing for everyday life, work, and continued education.
- Plan and deliver instruction in core content areas as defined by the state of Minnesota, focusing on English Language for non-native populations.
- Conduct ongoing assessments and monitor student attendance.
- Maintain student records.
Requirements
- Experience working with multicultural populations and English language learners preferred.
- Minnesota Teaching License in English Language Learners K-12 preferred.
- Experience with differentiated instruction and multiple instructional designs.
- Proficient and effective computer skills.
- Strong classroom management skills.
- Ability to build successful relationships with students and staff.
- Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with teams.
Pay
The pay range for this position is $56,076–$103,000, based on education and experience, and will be prorated based on FTE.
