Under occasional supervision and with support from administration and certified teachers, provide skills instruction and behavior reduction protocols based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis to children with autism and related developmental delays in a school setting.
Responsibilities
- Provide skills instruction and behavior reduction protocols based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis
- Assist in creating a well-organized, smoothly functioning classroom environment
- Perform specialized work by assisting teachers in instructing and directing student activities
- Communicate regularly and effectively with certified teachers, parents, and administration
- Remain knowledgeable about individual student needs and success plans
- Work individually with students needing academic or behavior interventions
- Work in small groups on classroom activities under teacher supervision
- Participate in staff development and training to update skills related to the position
- Assist administration and staff with various administrative or clerical functions as requested
Requirements
- Meet one of the following:
- Associate’s degree from an accredited college
- 60 semester hours (or equivalent) from an accredited college
- GED or high school diploma and passing score on ParaPro test prior to employment
- Initiative, knowledge, and understanding of adolescent-age students
- Ability and willingness to collaborate with others
- Ability to handle unforeseen situations in accordance with policy
- Ability to accept individual differences among students
- Willingness and ability to obtain ABA certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Successful experience working directly with children with autism and related developmental delays in a home, school, or clinical setting
- Versed in the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
- Certification as a Registered Behavior Technician
Physical Requirements
- Light work involving walking, bending, or standing some of the time
- Exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis or routine keyboard operations
- Ability to physically restrain a student if called upon to do so after proper training
- May be required to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion
Pay
185 days on Classified Salary Schedule Grade 11 or higher, based on education, skills, and experience.
