A320 MRB Engineer (MAP)

Airbus Commercial Aircraft is seeking an Airframe MRB Engineer to join the Engineering department in Mobile, AL. This role focuses on developing, justifying, and approving design solutions for aircraft primary and secondary structure non-conformities within the A320 Family.

About the role

The A320 Family MAP Structures Design Engineer operates in a fast-paced environment, serving as a critical interface between local manufacturing operations and Airbus Design Offices. The role ensures immediate, high-quality, and structurally sound engineering solutions to maintain production flow without compromising aircraft safety or airworthiness. Responsibilities span metallic and composite airframe structures across all relevant ATA chapters.

Our Engineers at the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing facility manage aircraft assembly from concept to delivery, collaborating with production teams on technical information, quality control, maintenance, and safety. The Mobile facility, operational since 2015, produces A320 Family aircraft and added the A220 product line in 2019, strengthening the U.S. aerospace industry.

Responsibilities

• Develop, validate, and authorize technical solutions, repair drawings, rework instructions, and design datasets for primary and secondary structural non-conformities.
• Ensure compliance with Aircraft Safety, Airbus Design Principles, and continuous Airworthiness requirements for all engineering files.
• Create, approve, and authorize temporary aircraft definitions (special instructions) for testing purposes.
• Exercise autonomous decision-making for standard structural repair instructions; coordinate major reworks with global Airbus engineering departments.
• Act as a liaison between Chief Engineering/Design Offices and local Manufacturing and Quality Assurance teams on the shop floor.
• Review and interpret complex design data, prepare materials for technical briefings, and provide engineering input.
• Formulate, validate, and authorize technical solutions and repair drawings for deviations discovered during assembly, inspections, or production flights, adhering to Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
• Represent the A320 Family Chief Engineering office, coordinating with overseas engineering teams to resolve complex structural issues.
• Provide continuous on-site structures engineering support from initial section delivery to final delivery flight, including customer acceptance negotiations.
• Launch and monitor engineering design improvements, permanent modifications, and drawing updates to eliminate recurring defects and enhance product performance.
• Align local assembly solutions with global engineering methods and core design principles through collaboration with Airbus Americas and European Engineering departments.
• Participate in international technical working groups to resolve cross-border anomalies and establish cross-functional consensus.
• Mentor team members and share technical expertise within the structural design perimeter.
• Deliver technical explanations and present structural repair configurations to internal/external customers, suppliers, and the flight test department.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
• 3+ years of progressive experience in aircraft structure (airframe) design engineering support.
• In-depth knowledge of primary and secondary aircraft structures design, repair principles, and structural data assessments.
• Comprehensive understanding of Airbus Design Principles, industrial procedures, processes, and tools.
• Expertise navigating Airbus manuals, including the Structural Repair Manual (SRM), Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM), and Illustrated Parts Catalog (IPC).
• Solid understanding of Airbus aircraft configuration management, change request processes, and product structure tracking.
• Proficiency in tracking and managing shop-floor non-conformities, concessions, and Design Query Notes (DQNs).
• Eligibility for employment in the U.S.
• Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time domestically and internationally within the Airbus network, supplier, and customer sites.
