Position Summary

The Class A Lineman is a safety-focused professional responsible for constructing and repairing electrical overhead distribution systems. This role involves working on energized and de-energized powerlines and may require travel to various job sites, including out-of-state locations.

About the Role

Reports to the Foreman, this position requires a combination of technical skills and leadership abilities. The Lineman is expected to lead crew members, train and mentor apprentices and groundmen, and perform a range of tasks including new construction, maintenance, and repairs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform new construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead distribution systems while prioritizing safety.
  • Lead crew members in safety briefings and conduct pre-job and tailgate safety meetings.
  • Install and repair overhead power lines, poles, insulators, conductors, and related hardware.
  • Operate and maintain bucket trucks, digger derricks, tensioners, pullers, and other overhead line equipment.
  • Work at heights, in confined spaces, and near energized equipment.
  • Work outdoors in varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and inclement weather.
  • Available to work outages, storms, emergencies, and on-call rotations.
  • Perform live-line work using approved glove techniques and hot-stick methods.
  • Follow all safety protocols and possess a comprehensive understanding of insulated protective gear.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years of recent overhead line experience.
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Willingness to travel long distances on short notice.
  • Lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Work for extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
  • Willing to work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.

Physical Demands

The physical demands of this job include standing, walking, using hands and fingers to handle objects, operating tools or controls, reaching with hands and arms, and frequent exposure to extreme conditions at construction job sites. Noise levels can be loud, and the job involves working in extreme heat, cold, wet, windy, and stormy conditions.
