Position Summary

The Class A Lineman is a safety-focused professional responsible for constructing and repairing electrical overhead distribution systems. This role involves working on energized and de-energized powerlines and may require travel to various job sites, including out-of-state locations, as needed.

About the Role

Reports to the Foreman, this position requires a combination of technical skills and leadership abilities. The Lineman is expected to lead crew members, conduct safety briefings, train apprentices and groundmen, and perform a wide range of tasks including climbing, operating equipment, and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform new construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead distribution systems
  • Lead crew members in safety briefings and troubleshoot issues
  • Train and mentor apprentices and groundmen
  • Install and repair overhead power lines, poles, insulators, conductors, and related hardware
  • Operate and maintain bucket trucks, digger derricks, tensioners, pullers, and other overhead line equipment
  • Work outdoors in varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and inclement weather
  • Available to work outages, storms, emergencies, and on-call rotations
  • Perform live-line work using approved glove and hot-stick techniques
  • Follow all safety protocols including personal protective equipment (PPE) use and understand insulated protective covers to isolate differences of potential

Requirements

  • Five (5) years of recent overhead line experience
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
  • Willingness to travel long distances on short notice
  • Lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Work for extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments
  • Willingness to work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime

Qualifications

Must have a comprehensive knowledge of switching and tagging procedures, grounding and induced voltage on energized and de-energized lines, and use of proper tools and test equipment. Must also be able to climb different structures (wood, steel, concrete) using approved climbing methods and equipment.

Skills

Comprehensive knowledge of overhead line construction and repair, ability to work safely at heights, and proficiency in operating bucket trucks and other overhead line equipment are essential. Must also be skilled in live-line work and follow all safety protocols.
