About the role

This position reports to the Fit Out Supervisor and involves performing tasks associated with TA and B Class status in marine or comparable trade construction.

Responsibilities

  • Layout all joiner components including bulkheads, doors, ceilings, shelving, furniture, consoles, and attachments from drawings with minimal supervision.
  • Prefabricate bulkheads, doors, ceilings, shelving, furniture, consoles, and attachments from drawings with minimal supervision.
  • Install bulkheads, doors, ceilings, shelving, furniture, consoles, and attachments from drawings with minimal supervision.
  • Mark out, shoot pins, and insulate deck heads, side shells, beams, and ducts with minimal supervision.
  • Measure, build, and install pads with minimal supervision.
  • Run and cut fittings on various pipe coverings and lag with little or no seams showing.
  • Operate metal shear and break machines.
  • Read metric and standard tape measures.
  • Take drawings to the job site with materials and work with minimal supervision.
  • Measure and install duct/fittings.
  • Mount and install equipment such as valves and air hangers.
  • Lay out hangers, pens, duct, etc.
  • Perform interior painting tasks with an understanding of painting principles.
  • Interpret blueprints and construction information.
  • Perform material takeoffs.
  • May direct the work of Trades Assistants and/or B Class employees.

Requirements

  • Three (3) progressive years of marine experience or five (5) years of comparable trade experience in the construction industry.
  • Working knowledge of practices, methods, materials, and equipment used in cabinet making, carpentry, industrial insulation, and HVAC.
  • Basic mechanical skills and trades mathematics.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and blueprints.
  • Functional working knowledge of tools including:
    • Table saw
    • Drill press
    • Planer
    • Radial arm saw
    • Nail/rivet gun
    • Drills
    • Reciprocating saw
    • Laminate trimmer
    • Grinder
    • Jigsaw
    • Disc sanders
    • CNC Shear
    • CNC Break
    • Iron Worker
    • Rivet gun
    • Cordless drill
    • Compass saw
    • Banders
  • Must be able to provide proof of US Person status.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to bend, squat, stoop, crawl, and kneel.
  • Perform prolonged standing.
  • Ability to turn head and body from side to side and about the vertical axis.
  • Lift/push/pull 50lbs to 75lbs on an occasional basis.
  • Lift/push/pull up to 20lbs on a frequent basis.
  • Ability to climb stairs, scaffolding, ladders, and ramps safely.
  • Work at heights above 12’ using ladders, scaffolding, and/or man lifts.
  • Work at various levels (e.g., waist, eye, overhead).
  • Demonstrate safe and appropriate use of required tools and equipment.
  • Good balance while working on uneven surfaces and maneuvering obstacles.
  • Sufficient handgrip and coordination to carry and operate tools and equipment.
  • Ability to use personal protective equipment (PPE) safely per OSHA standards (e.g., hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, flotation gear).
  • Ability to withstand cold and hot temperatures.
  • Ability to enter 18” x 36” openings and work in confined spaces for prolonged periods.
  • Respond to verbal and audible sounds/commands.
  • Adequate visual skills.
  • Ability to fully extend arms while reaching overhead, out, to the side, and down.
  • Perceive attributes of objects/materials (e.g., size, shape, temperature, texture) using hands and fingers.

Work Environment

The work environment involves exposure to:

  • Humid conditions
  • Moving mechanical parts
  • High precarious places
  • Outside weather conditions
  • Extreme heat
  • Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and heat/cold
  • Very loud noise levels

Must comply with company, federal, state, and local safety and environmental rules and regulations.
