About the role
The Army National Guard relies on Special Electronic Devices Repairers to maintain sophisticated equipment both on and off the field. This role involves ensuring the operational readiness of critical instruments such as night vision equipment, electronic distance and azimuth-orienting devices, battlefield illumination devices, and nuclear, biological, and chemical warning and measuring devices.
Responsibilities
- Test instruments, navigational controls, and simulators
- Read technical diagrams and manuals
- Replace parts and ensure quality control measures
- Troubleshoot and inspect equipment
- Supervise and train other Soldiers in the craft (advanced level)

Civilian career opportunities
Through your training, you will develop skills and experience applicable to careers with the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, or the National Weather Service.
Training
Job training for a Special Electronic Devices Repairer includes:
- 10 weeks of Basic Training, covering basic Soldiering skills
- 25 weeks of Advanced Individual Training, combining classroom instruction, hands-on equipment practice, and field training under simulated combat conditions
Instead of paying to learn these skills, you will earn a regular paycheck and qualify for tuition assistance.

Most non-prior service candidates will earn between $200 and $250 per drill weekend, subject to change.
Requirements
- Military enlistment in the Army National Guard
- Must be at least a junior in high school, or have a high school diploma or a GED certificate
- Must be between the ages of 17 and 35
- Must be able to pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards
