94E Radio and Communications Security Repairer
About the Role
As the Radio and Communications Security Repairer in the Army National Guard, you will maintain the equipment and systems that ensure secure communications. Duties include installing and repairing circuits and wiring, calibrating and aligning equipment components, stringing overhead cables between utility poles, repairing systems, performing equipment tests, and conducting preventive maintenance checks and services.
Advanced Radio and Communications Security Repairers handle more complex tasks, such as training and supervising other Soldiers, testing equipment, performing intricate repairs, and ensuring compliance with National Security Agency-approved components for communication security and controlled cryptographic item repairs.
Responsibilities
- Use test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot and repair communication systems.
- Test program sets and interactive electronic technical manuals.
- Install and repair circuits, wiring, and overhead cables.
- Calibrate and align equipment components.
- Perform preventive maintenance checks and services.
- Train and supervise other Soldiers (Advanced role).
- Ensure National Security Agency-approved components are used in repairs (Advanced role).
Skills You’ll Learn
- Communication security policy and procedure.
- Radio repair, radio mechanics, teletype repair, and station installation.
Strong attention to detail is essential.
Training
Instead of paying to learn these skills, you will earn while you train. After 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you will learn fundamental Soldiering skills, you will attend 16 weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT) in a classroom setting, including hands-on practice with equipment. Training covers mechanical, electronic, and electrical principles, preventive maintenance procedures, and communication security policies.

Most non-prior service candidates will earn between $200 and $250 per drill weekend, subject to change.
Requirements
- Military enlistment in the Army National Guard.
- Must be at least a junior in high school, or have a high school diploma or a GED certificate.
- Must be between the ages of 17 and 35.
- Must be able to pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards.
