About the role

Highly-mobile missile launchers give the Army National Guard a powerful edge on the battlefield. As the Land Combat Electronic Missile System Repairer, you will keep these launchers in top fighting shape by testing and repairing missile electronic assemblies and tracking systems. You will primarily work on the TOW antimissile system, the DRAGON antitank guided missile systems, and the Bradley Fighting Vehicle systems. As your skills increase, so will your responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Test and repair missile electronic assemblies and tracking systems
• Work primarily on the TOW antimissile system, the DRAGON antitank guided missile systems, and the Bradley Fighting Vehicle systems
• Test instruments and navigational controls
• Read technical diagrams and manuals to locate and repair instrument parts
• Replace equipment parts
• Perform quality control and inspect and maintain units
• Repair unserviceable items

Advanced responsibilities

• Train and supervise other Soldiers
• Provide technical assistance
• Install equipment modifications
• Perform quality control measures

Job duties

• Determine shortcomings and malfunctions in electronic, electrical, mechanical, and circuit elements
• Repair unserviceable optical and infrared components
• Inspect, test, and adjust components to specific tolerances
• Perform quality control measures

Civilian career opportunities

Through your training, you will develop the skills and experience to pursue a civilian career in manufacturing, medical research, satellite communications, or in the commercial airline industry. You may also consider a career with the federal government. With additional study, you may be eligible for Electronics Technician Association (ETA) certification.

Training and advancement

Instead of paying to learn these skills, get paid to train. In the Army National Guard, you will learn these valuable job skills while earning a regular paycheck and qualifying for tuition assistance. After 10 weeks of Basic Training, you will attend approximately 22 weeks of classroom instruction, including practice in repairing and replacing equipment parts. You will learn the principles of electronics, how to use and maintain electrical and electronic test equipment, and equipment repair.
