92G Food Service Specialist
About the role
As a Food Service Specialist for the Army National Guard, you will provide the sustenance your fellow Soldiers need to perform at their best. You will manage all dietary and nutritional needs, ensuring Soldiers are prepared to face challenges. Responsibilities include planning and preparing menus, cooking and serving food, and maintaining food safety and facility sanitation in both field and fixed facilities, whether feeding 25 or 2,500 Soldiers.
Responsibilities
- Prepare food using Army recipes, including baking, frying, braising, boiling, simmering, steaming, and sautéing
- Operate, maintain, and clean field kitchen equipment
- Perform preventive maintenance on garrison and field kitchen equipment
- Manage standard and dietetic menus and recipes
- Order food and supplies
- Store meats, poultry, and other perishable items

These skills can translate into civilian careers in restaurants or organizations with dining facilities, including roles as a cook, chef, meat cutter, butcher, or baker.
Training
Food Service Specialist job training includes 10 weeks of Basic Training to learn fundamental Soldiering skills, followed by nine weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT), split between classroom instruction and field experience.

Most non-prior service candidates will earn between $200 and $250 per drill weekend, subject to change.
Requirements
- Military enlistment in the Army National Guard
- Must be at least a junior in high school, or have a high school diploma or GED certificate
- Must be between the ages of 17 and 35
- Must pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards
