92G Food Service Specialist
About the role
As a Food Service Specialist for the Army National Guard, you will provide the sustenance your fellow Soldiers need to perform at their best. This role involves planning, preparing, and serving meals, as well as ensuring food safety and facility sanitation for groups ranging from 25 to 2,500 Soldiers, whether in the field or at a fixed facility.
Responsibilities
- Prepare meals using Army recipes, including baking, frying, braising, boiling, simmering, steaming, and sautéing
- Operate, maintain, and clean field kitchen equipment
- Perform preventive maintenance on garrison and field kitchen equipment
- Plan and prepare standard and dietetic menus
- Order food and supplies
- Store meats, poultry, and other perishable items

- Skills applicable to civilian careers in restaurants or organizations with dining facilities, including roles as a cook, chef, meat cutter, butcher, or baker
Helpful skills for this role include an interest in cooking, home economics, health, mathematics, accounting, and chemistry.
Training
Food Service Specialist job training includes 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you will learn fundamental Soldiering skills, followed by nine weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT), split between classroom instruction and field experience.

Most non-prior service candidates will earn between $200 and $250 per drill weekend, subject to change.
Requirements
- Military enlistment in the Army National Guard
- Must be at least a junior in high school, or have a high school diploma or a GED certificate
- Must be between the ages of 17 and 35
- Must be able to pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards
