91J Quartermaster and Chemical Equipment Repairer
About the Role
As a Quartermaster and Chemical Equipment Repairer in the Army National Guard, you will maintain and repair systems that protect and serve the force. Your work will ensure the operational readiness of chemical decontamination equipment and quartermaster machinery, including laundry and bath equipment, pumps, engines, burners, filter units, and water purification units. You will also support special purpose equipment, decontamination and protective filter systems, smoke generator systems, and chemical electrical systems.
Responsibilities
- Service internal combustion engine ignition, fuel, cooling, and electrical systems
- Perform damage assessment and repair
- Maintain and repair chemical decontamination and quartermaster equipment
- Support the upkeep of special purpose equipment and systems

Civilian Career Opportunities
Through your training, you will gain skills applicable to careers in marine transportation, commercial fishing, oil exploration, or oil drilling industries. You may pursue roles such as a marine engine mechanic.
Training
Instead of paying to learn these skills, you will earn while you train. After completing 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you will learn fundamental soldiering skills, you will attend 12 weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT). AIT includes hands-on and classroom instruction in marine engine maintenance and repair, internal combustion engine theory, and the use of hand and power tools.

Most non-prior service candidates will earn between $200 and $250 per drill weekend, subject to change.
Requirements
- Military enlistment in the Army National Guard
- Must be at least a junior in high school, or have a high school diploma or a GED certificate
- Must be between the ages of 17 and 35
- Must be able to pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards
