91C Utilities Equipment Repairer
About the role
Join the Army National Guard as a Utilities Equipment Repairer and help keep operations running smoothly on and off the battlefield. Your primary responsibility will be to maintain and repair utilities equipment and special-purpose support systems.
Through your training, you will develop skills applicable to a civilian career in industries using equipment powered with electrical motors, such as hospitals, manufacturing firms, and governmental agencies. With additional certification, this role could prepare you for self-employment as an electrical tool, motor, and equipment repairer.
Responsibilities
- Maintain, test, and repair electric motors
- Inspect and repair electrical equipment
- Inspect and repair electric instruments
- Replace worn gaskets and seal watertight electrical equipment
- Maintain and repair gasoline engine systems, air conditioner electrical systems, and portable heater fuel/electrical systems
- Inspect and repair air conditioner electrical systems, air conditioner vapor systems, and refrigeration unit electrical systems
- Repair portable heater fuel/electrical systems and fire extinguisher recharging systems
- Maintain and repair fire extinguishers and valves
Training
Earn while you learn with paid training. Job training consists of 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you'll learn basic Soldiering skills, followed by 13 weeks of Advanced Individual Training, including practice in repairing electrical products. Part of this time is spent in the classroom and part in the field.

Most non-prior service candidates will earn between $200 and $250 per drill weekend, subject to change.
Requirements
- Military enlistment in the Army National Guard
- Must be at least a junior in high school, or have a high school diploma or a GED certificate
- Must be between the ages of 17 and 35
- Must be able to pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards
- Must meet citizenship requirements (see NATIONALGUARD.com for details)
