About the role
As a Light-Wheel Vehicle Mechanic for the Army National Guard, you will ensure that wheeled vehicles and their associated trailers and material handling equipment are ready for deployment.
Responsibilities
- Maintain wheeled vehicles and associated equipment systems
- Service automotive electrical systems, including wiring harness and charging systems
- Perform recovery operations
- Inspect, service, maintain, repair, test, adjust, and replace systems and components
Requirements
- Must be at least a junior in high school, or have a high school diploma or GED certificate
- Must be between the ages of 17 and 35
- Must be able to pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards
- Must meet citizenship requirements (see NATIONALGUARD.com for details)
Qualifications
- Military enlistment in the Army National Guard
Skills
- Interest in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical problems
- Interest in automotive engines and how they work

Schedule
Participation in Basic Training (10 weeks) and Advanced Individual Training (AIT) (13 weeks).
Pay
Actual pay range is between $200 and $250 per drill weekend, subject to change.
