91B Light-Wheel Vehicle Mechanic
About the role
As a Light-Wheel Vehicle Mechanic for the Army National Guard, you will ensure that wheeled vehicles and related equipment are ready for deployment. Your primary responsibilities include supervising and performing maintenance and recovery operations on vehicles in both the field and the shop.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, service, maintain, repair, test, adjust, and replace systems and components of wheeled vehicles and trailers.
- Perform recovery operations and service electrical systems, including wiring harness and charging systems.
Requirements
- Must be between the ages of 17 and 35.
- Must be able to pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards.
- Military enlistment in the Army National Guard.
- Must be at least a junior in high school, or have a high school diploma or GED certificate.
- Must meet citizenship requirements (see NATIONALGUARD.com for details).
Qualifications
Interest in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical problems, and an interest in automotive engines and their workings.
Skills
Develops skills and experience to enjoy a civilian career with service stations, auto dealers, farm equipment companies, and state highway agencies. Potential careers include working on carburetors, transmissions, radiators, construction equipment, or endless track vehicles.

Schedule
Participation in Basic Training (10 weeks) and Advanced Individual Training (AIT) (13 weeks), which includes classroom and field training.
Pay
Earn while you learn through the Army National Guard. Non-prior service candidates can earn between $200 and $250 per drill weekend, subject to change.
