About the Role

The M1 Abrams Tank System Maintainer in the Army National Guard is responsible for supervising and performing maintenance on M1 Abrams tanks, ensuring these vehicles remain operational in any environment.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctions in tank systems.
• Perform organizational maintenance and on-board direct support tasks on:
  • Suspension systems
  • Steering systems
  • Hydraulic systems
  • Auxiliary power units
  • Fire extinguisher/suppression systems
  • Gas particulate systems
• Perform organizational maintenance on:
  • Vehicular mounted armament
  • Gun turret drive system
  • Fire control system

Training

Job training for an M1 Abrams Tank Systems Maintainer consists of:

• 10 weeks of Basic Training (learning basic Soldiering skills).
• 24 weeks of Advanced Individual Training (split between classroom instruction and field training).

Training includes paid learning opportunities while earning a regular paycheck and qualifying for tuition assistance.

Requirements
