911 Police, Fire & EMS Dispatcher

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma/GED
• Extensive training provided by Brown County Public Safety Communications
• Significant experience with computers and computer keyboards
• Key qualities and skills: ability to handle stressful situations calmly, think outside the box, significant experience with computers, integrity, cooperation, and concern for the welfare of the public and responders
• Shift work with mandatory overtime possible
• Shift rotation: 2 days on, 2 days off, 3 days on, 3 days off, then repeat
• Pay increases to $27.44/hr upon successful completion of training in two training spots
• Candidates with previous dispatch experience may be eligible for a higher pay rate ($29.09-$32.92/hr)
• Up to $2,000 bonus with 1-2 years dispatch experience (within the last 5 years)
• Up to $6,000 bonus with 2+ years dispatch experience (within the last 5 years)
• Up to $1,000 bonus if the candidate has completed the International Academy of Emergency Dispatch Emergency Telecommunicator Course and the course is valid at time of hire

OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, area geography and an awareness of community events
• Knowledge of and ability to utilize a computer and the required software
• Oral communication skills, both orally and in writing
• Keyboard and telephone equipment operation skills
• Able to pass CritiCall test
• Able to accurately obtain information over the telephone from callers
• Able to maintain emotional stability in stressful situations
• Able to comprehend and carry out departmental rules, regulations and procedures
• Able to maintain security and confidentiality
• Able to record computer data rapidly and accurately
• Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public
• Able to familiarize oneself with incidents relating to critical public safety activities
• Able to understand and follow written and oral instructions
• Able to work the required hours of the position
